Roggwil is a municipality in the Oberaargau administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.
Roggwil has an area of 7.8 km2 (3.0 sq mi). Of this area, 48.2% is used for agricultural purposes, while 29.9% is forested. The rest of the land, (21.9%) is settled.[3]
Roggwil has a population (as of 31 December 2010) of 3,840.[1] As of 2007[update], 12.7% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years the population has grown at a rate of 1.5%. Most of the population (as of 2000[update]) speaks German (92.1%), with Italian being second most common ( 2.0%) and Albanian being third ( 1.3%).
In the 2007 election the most popular party was the SVP which received 34.1% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the SPS (26.7%), the FDP (13.4%) and the Green Party (8.6%).
The age distribution of the population (as of 2000[update]) is children and teenagers (0–19 years old) make up 25.3% of the population, while adults (20–64 years old) make up 56.5% and the seniors (over 64 years old) make up 18.2%. In Roggwil about 73.3% of the population (between age 25-64) have completed either non-mandatory upper secondary education or additional higher education (either university or a Fachhochschule).
Roggwil has an unemployment rate of 1.87%. As of 2005[update], there were 55 people employed in the primary economic sector and about 19 businesses involved in this sector. 607 people are employed in the secondary sector and there are 39 businesses in this sector. 607 people are employed in the tertiary sector, with 101 businesses in this sector.[3]
